Circuit Breaker

A circuit breaker is an automatically operated electrical switch designed to protect a circuit from damage caused by excess current due to an overload or short circuit. Its basic function is to interrupt the flow of current upon detection of a fault. The circuit breaker can be reset (manually or automatically) to restore normal operation.
